Geography Club Raises £2,850 for Water Well in Chad

Students in the Geography Club have achieved something truly remarkable this year, raising £2,850 to fund the construction of a clean water well in rural Chad. The well has now been successfully completed in the Boktchoro/Golonga area, a remote rural region located approximately seven hours from the nearest city, where access to safe drinking water is extremely limited. The project, delivered in partnership with Time to Help UK, will provide clean, reliable water to around 500 people in the local community.

The well, which became operational on 23 April 2026, is a 45 metre deep, manually operated handpump. For many families in the area, this will drastically reduce the time and effort spent collecting water and improve health and living conditions.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication and teamwork of our students particularly those in Year 11 and Year 12, who played a leading role throughout the project. From organising bake sales and quizzes to managing marketing and promotion, students demonstrated outstanding initiative, creativity, and commitment to making a real-world impact.

This project highlights the power of geography beyond the classroom connecting students to global challenges and empowering them to be part of meaningful solutions. The Geography Club and Highams Park School students should be incredibly proud of the difference they have made to a community thousands of miles away due to their generosity.
