Pupil Premium & Free School Meals
Evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school and often do not perform as well as other pupils. The Pupil Premium is a government initiative that provides additional funding for these students to help narrow the attainment gap and progress of which they are capable. We are using a number of different interventions to support our Pupil Premium pupils in achieving these aims and these can be found in the Pupil Premium Strategy.
Pupil Premium funding is available for pupils who:
- Are registered as eligible for free school meals.
- Have been looked after for 6 months or longer.
- Were eligible for free schools at any point in the last 6 years.
Children may be entitled to free school meals if you get any of the following:
- Income Support.
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.
- The guaranteed element of Pension Credit.
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190).
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.
- Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get).
