Highams Park Celebrates Another Year of GCSE Success

Following on from the strong results that were achieved last week by Year 13 students, Highams Park is very pleased that Year 11students continue to achieve very good results in their Level 2 qualifications. Every headline measure for the year group showed an improvement on the last academic year, with our attainment 8 score rising from 47.76 to 48.83, and the number of students achieving at least a grade 4 in English and Maths increasing from 68% to 71%. Furthermore, 71% of GCSEs on the whole were awarded at least a grade 4, another increase on percentages from last year. This highlights the hard work and commitment that our students have shown to achieve such positive outcomes.
Overall, 515 grades were recorded at 9-7 received across the Year 11 cohort this year, which is an outstanding achievement for our students. 26 students received grades which averaged as a 7, with students like Arthur, Adem, Roberto and Cliodhna all achieving an average grade of an 8 overall. In addition, the BTEC qualifications undertaken at Highams Park also had very strong results, with students such as Nithusha, Olivia, Rachel and Safiya getting the top Distinction grades in Health and Social Care. Subjects like Drama, Art and Mathematics also gained outstanding outcomes, with over 75% of students getting at least a grade 5 or above. This highlights the depth of the curriculum on offer and the wide variety of different pathways that students can take during their studies at Highams Park. The vast range of subjects that students achieved these top grades shows the depth of high-quality teaching that students experienced at Highams Park.
All of our students who have achieved above their targets deserve praise for their achievements, which come from a combination of student self-discipline, strong parental support and dedicated teacher input throughout their secondary school careers. In addition, we were very pleased to welcome our local councillors Rosalind Dore and Tony Bell into school to celebrate these excellent achievements with our students. They were very pleased to hear all about the successes of our students and the strong results that they had achieved.
Nigel Armsby, Principal of Highams Park School was extremely impressed with the results achieved by the Year 11 cohort and said that “Our Year 11 students have once again achieved extremely impressive results across their subjects. We are continuously proud of the hard work that our students put in to ensure that they are making expected progress. Their dedication and resilience are admirable, and it is pleasing that so many students are continuing onto their first-choice post-16 destination, with a majority choosing to stay at Highams Park for Sixth Form”.
As a result of the excellent results achieved by Year 11, Highams Park is very pleased that a majority of their Year 11 students have chosen to remain at our outstanding Sixth Form for their A level and BTEC Level 3 studies. It was great that the number choosing to enrol in the Sixth Form was high, with 230 students at present choosing to study at Highams Park for their Level 3 studies. This is in addition to many students from other schools both within and beyond Waltham Forest choosing to come to Highams Park to experience the broad curriculum that is on offer in the Sixth Form.
