Progress on the News School Building

As we come to the end of the Spring term, we’re excited to share the progress of our rebuilding project.
All demolition works have now been successfully completed, and the site has been fully cleared in preparation for the next stages of construction. A major milestone has also been reached with the drilling of all 28 boreholes required for the new ground source heat pump system, which will provide an efficient and sustainable heating solution for the building.
Work on the new drainage infrastructure has begun, forming an important element of the early groundwork, and piling is now underway to create a stable and secure foundation for the new building. This crucial stage will support the main structure and ensure long-term durability.
Bowmer + Kirkland (B+K) continue to contribute actively to careers education at the school. They recently attended the school’s careers fayre, engaging with students and discussing pathways into the construction industry. In addition, B+K delivered a highly successful workshop that reached more than 100 students, providing hands‑on insight into construction careers and project management. Their involvement will continue with participation in the upcoming Year 10 mock interviews, helping students develop valuable employability skills.
There are also plans for a future student trip to B+K’s offsite manufacturing facility, giving pupils the opportunity to see elements of the new building being constructed and assembled in a real working environment.
The coming term will mark an exciting phase of the project, with the installation of the steel frame scheduled to be completed by June. This will be the moment when the shape and scale of the new building begin to take form. Alongside this, work will continue on foundations, drainage, and preparations for the superstructure. Alongside this, preparations have started for the creation of a new memorial garden, which will offer a reflective space for students and staff once completed during the Easter break.
