Celebrating Black History Month: A Journey Through the Timeline of Black Britain
This October, we are celebrating Black History Month, a time to reflect on the contributions, achievements, and stories of Black individuals throughout history. As part of our celebrations, we have held a series of insightful assemblies throughout the week, presented by Mr. Tobias. The focus of these assemblies has been on the timeline of Black Britain, shedding light on important but often overlooked figures who have shaped the rich history of this country.
Mr. Tobias took us on an enlightening journey, beginning with some of the earliest known residents of African heritage in Britain. We learned about the Beachy Head Lady, a woman of African descent who lived in Roman Britain, and the Ivory Bangle Lady, another African woman whose burial in York showcased her high status during the Roman period.
